A Service Reflection by Dominique Kizer
My time spent serving at Therese, one of the two Zelie’s home locations in Cleveland, through NDMVA has been enriching and eye-opening. Through this experience, I've had the opportunity to engage with individuals facing difficult circumstances directly and offer support where needed.
Witnessing the resilience and strength of these mothers has deeply impacted me, reinforcing my commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others. This experience has not only broadened my perspective but has instilled in me a sense of empathy and compassion that I will carry with me in all aspects of my life.

Zelie’s Home is a caring community that empowers pregnant and parenting women to take positive and effective action on behalf of themselves and their children by providing physical, emotional, spiritual, and professional support.
Serving at Therese has provided me with the opportunity to form meaningful connections with the mothers and their children, which has been incredibly fulfilling. I've cherished the moments spent getting to know these women, learning about their aspirations, and offering support wherever I could. In particular, there were two mothers whose determination to improve their situations stood out to me. Despite facing significant challenges, they remained steadfast in pursuing growth and progress. Witnessing their resilience and growth firsthand has been truly inspiring. I am grateful for the privilege of getting to know them and to be a part of their journey toward a brighter future.
