A Little About William…

Best at: Planning service projects. We’ve done things like restoring the coastline, which helps protect sacred spaces for native people. We’ve planted mangrove trees, worked at homeless shelters, supported events at the Veterans Affairs hospital, and partnered with Sugar Roots Ranch, which helps address food insecurity. I love finding experiences that excite my members about service– experiences that teach as much as they inspire.

Worst at: Cooking. I could burn water. It's a little ironic being in New Orleans, but I am trying. I love gumbo and okra. Once, my neighbor showed me how to cook gumbo. Mine boiled, and it was over. I stick to making things that don’t require cooking, like PB&J.

Passionate about: This is my nerdiest thing: I love metaphysics and philosophy. I love to read about mathematics and about what makes up reality. I just wrote a paper for school about process relational philosophy, which is a more recent development of looking at metaphysics as the world is in a constant state of change.

What’s your “why”? I got into AmeriCorps in the first place with the same spirit of wanting to make a change. I try to appreciate that many people have been left behind and need someone to know they’re there with them—not to solve the problems but to support them through life, not just sit with the struggles but find a way to end the struggle.

Favorite Hallmark: We educate for and act on behalf of justice & peace in the world.

The Hallmarks by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur are the essential characteristics, values, and activities of the NDMVA learning community. They are common principles that we share within both organizations. They recently refreshed their hallmarks!
