A Little About Lisa…

Best at: Teaching and sharing resources about what I have learned.

Worst at: Following baking recipes. I’m very organized when it comes to my work, but I don’t like being limited by precise measurements. Cooking gives me more space to be creative!

Passionate about: Nature. I grew up watching a nature show on PBS, and I’ve loved learning about the environment and its history ever since. During my year of service with NDMVA, I was a naturalist assistant. I taught environmental classes and would take snakes, birds, and turtles to different schools. There’s a lot we can learn from animals, especially their adaptability and resilience through intense seasons of change.

What’s your “why”? The transformative nature of service. During my first year as an AmeriCorps member, I learned that you get more out of service than you give. I taught English to Iraqi immigrants. I learned about their culture, language, and resilience. I also learned how rewarding service can be during my second year of service with NDMVA, where I developed my passion for environmental education.

Favorite Hallmark: We educate for and act on behalf of justice, peace, and care for all creation.

The Hallmarks by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur are the essential characteristics, values, and activities of the NDMVA learning community. They are common principles that we share within both organizations. They recently refreshed their hallmarks! Click here to read the updated Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur Hallmarks.
