Julie’s Family Learning Program (JFLP)
Julie’s is a family support, wellness and education program that is committed to the development of strong, stable, healthy family functioning. Julie’s provides services that enable poor, at-risk mothers and their children to transform their lives and become healthy, successful and economically self-sufficient members of their communities.
One NDA Member Serves in the Toddler room as a Pre-School Teacher Assistant, and the other NDA Member serves in the Montessori Kindergarten room as a Teacher Assistant.
Catholic Charities (Laboure Center)
Catholic Charities believes that every child deserves a promising future. We show our commitment to youth through programs that support their health, wellness, productivity, leadership development, and education. Our mentoring and tutoring programs help create positive self-esteem, encourage school attachment, and promote the ability to make positive life choices, while teaching youth to interact appropriately with their peers and adults in their lives.
One NDA Member Serves in the “Youth Tutoring Youth” Tutoring program as an Assistant Program Coordinator--duties include day to day planning for the program, assisting in special events, and supporting youth in the academic engagement, as well as directing the teen volunteers. The other NDA Member serves in the T.E.A.M. (Together Engaging Adolescents through Mentoring) program as an Assistant Mentoring Program Coordinator--duties include supporting mentor partnerships, reviewing training tools and resources, events planning, and researching activities for mentors and mentees.
Steps to Success
Building upon the aspirations and skills of the young people we work with, the mission of Steps to Success is to enhance educational outcomes for students from low-income families in order to defeat the cycle of poverty.
One NDA Member assists in the Steps to Success "College Success Initiative," working with students in high school, as well as college students. The other NDA Member assists in the Elementary/Middle School Program. Areas of service can include planning and conducting workshops, guidance of college freshmen, advising college students, student support, event planning, and 1:1 work with high risk students.
Notre Dame Education Center (NDEC)
NDEC was established in 1992 as a comprehensive adult education center. NDEC’s staff is committed to helping students achieve their goals and works collaboratively to provide an outstanding education through programs in Workforce Readiness, Adult Basic Education, HiSET Preparation, and ESOL. The Center also offers citizenship classes, along with a variety of customized supports to complement and strengthen these programs and services.
The NDA member assists in adult learning classrooms providing instruction and support with ESOL, job readiness, HiSet and other training offered at the Center.
Jewish Vocational Services (JVS)
For over 75 years JVS has helped people secure financial independence. Every year, JVS serves nearly 21,000 individuals providing them the skills they need to gain employment, as well as to progress up the career and wage ladder and make sound financial choices over their lifetimes. Programs span from providing employment services to Refugees, to educational programs that help our students prepare for college or get certified in the Biotechnology, Nursing and Pharmacy fields.
One NDA Member works collaboratively with Refugee Services staff to identify and local suitable support options for refugee and immigrant participants, with the goal of creating opportunities for individuals that will lead to successful program completion, job placement and/or career ladder advancement. This NDA member also teaches Vocational English Language Training. (Note: applicants with Refugee Experience are preferred for this position.)
A second NDA Member serves in the Skills Department, serving as a classroom assistant, aiding adult, non-native English speaking students in completing a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) program. The Member acts as a lunch bunch coordinator, creating and implementing English games/activities and encouraging students to communicate in English at lunchtime to prepare for the workplace. They also provide assistance to CNA graduates with skills practice for the CNA State exam, job search, interviewing practice, and cover letter and resume writing.
A third NDA Member assists in the Business Services Department, teaching and assisting with adult literacy/ESOL courses and as an instructor’s aide for a GED course.
A fourth NDA Member serves in the Adult Diploma Program tutoring adults who are looking to obtain their diploma and tracking their progress. This is a great position to build personal relationships by supporting individuals in a one-on-one setting.
St. Peter Academy
St. Peter Academy is an independent private Early Childhood through Grade 8 school dedicated to providing a high quality education to children of all faiths and diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. St Peter Academy strives to foster individual responsibility as well as focus on nurturing the physical, spiritual, intellectual, social and emotional development of every student. As an independent private community based school, St. Peter Academy offers unique programs enhancing the educational experience for all students.
The NDA Member assists in the elementary and middle school classrooms as well as after school and summer enrichment programs. They participate in instruction, providing small group or one to one student support, helping with organizing the classroom, and lesson plan preparation. Additionally, the NDA Member will join the enrichment staff to support delivering fun project based learning components to students attending after school enrichment clubs and summer programs, provide assistance to students in the after school homework helpers group, and provide assistance to student academic support groups.
